What is research?
Research is to see what everybody has seen and to think what nobody has thought!
The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research defines research as “an original investigation undertaken to gain knowledge, understanding and insight”. It is a broad concept and there is no simple, single way to define research for all disciplines.
In a famous editorial published in the BMJ in 1996, Sackett et al defined evidence-based medicine as “the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.”
